Roman catholic news roundup

It seems that Cardinal Egan, head of New York's Roman Catholic Archdiocese, has internalized the Jesus character from the Bible's exhortation to his followers that they suck up to rich people and debase themselves and their religion at any opportunity. First he blessed the tony new restaurant "le Cirque." Then, for the amusement of the gathered celebrities, he blessed the kitchen. Finally, he was taken into the bathroom where he blessed the owner's turds. Presumably he was well paid for his performances.

In other Catholic news, I was flipping the channel the other day and noticed that the Tim LeHaye's "Left Behind," movie was playing on the Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN), a Roman Catholic propaganda channel. LeHaye is virulently anti-Catholic, describing Catholicism as a false religion and the "Left Behind" series mercilessly mocks Catholic beliefs. But hey, it's probably good for ratings, huh? I guess the Catholics are taking an "if you can't beat them, join them" attitude towards the far right evangelicals these days. Hatred of gays and Obama probably pulls in much better ratings, puts more butts in the pews and coin in the collection plates than all that "prince of peace" bullshit that nobody ever believed in anyway.

In related news, LeHaye and Cardinal Egan were spotted dining at New York's Four Season's restaurant where Egan was overheard blessing LeHaye's butt. Local wags speculated it was because of its close proximity to his wallet.
